Into Every Holly Jolly, Some Sadness Must Fall

We had a great time with my bro and sis in WA and we're still letting the good times roll now that my other sis is here at Mom and Dad's visiting. I've been reintroduced to all my wonderful nieces and nephews and spent some much needed time catching up with family, blood and otherwise.

Dad continues to make great strides in his recovery and I'm constantly surprised at what a short time ago, I wasn't sure he was going to live at all. He's back to his old antics, though they may be a tad slower and require a few extra naps still, but he's way on track to get back to work soon and he's even growing some early vestiges of hair back!

Unfortunately, not all our family has made it through the holiday season. Mom's horse Penny finally had to be put to sleep. We humans and equines of her former herd hope she finds joy in her next one and wish her warm, dry stables, vast expanses of rolling, unfenced pasture, and all the treats she can wrap her lips around. She's really had a long and wonderful life, but the tumor that was causing her a lot of pain finally caused some damage that she just wouldn't have survived long. The poor old dear.

I gotta wonder. When is my poor mom going to just get an emotional break? This has been a particularly rough season for her and I'm hoping that her life begins coming back to warmth and joy as the days lengthen once again.

It's time for new beginnings. Are we all ready for some new goals? I generally set mine around late October for the year, but thought I'd share a few of them now. I am really hoping to finish my degree this year, as most of you know. I'm also hoping to be pregnant by the end of the year. Tom, I may need a hand with that if you could arange it. ;) I still hope to be to a much better weight (don't I make that goal every year?), though the exact number is not something a lady talks about in public. haha! And I will also finally put the finishing touches on the 1st re-write of the novel. 2009 is going to busy busy!

Well, all, I hope every one of you and yours are happy, healthy and are being blessed with all good things in every good way. Happy holidays!

Christmas Plans

So Mom and Dad are home and Dad is on the long, slow road to recovery. He's lost a lot of muscle, but he's almost starting to look normal again. A little haggard for the adventure, but still the same tough guy we all know and love.

We've decided to press ahead with our Christmas plans for the most part. We'll be traveling over to see my brother and one of my sisters for Christmas, and then back here where my other sister has graciously offered to come to us to make it a little easier on Dad for New Years. It's all going to be tremendous fun!

So how about them fancy decked halls I been hearin' everyone talkin' about?

Happy Ho Ho for an Old Dog with Older Tricks

I think Mom and Dad are coming home tomorrow! Yay team Fleming!

Ok, so we were planning on going to WA and then to CA, passing through OR to see all three of my siblings for the holidays. Because Dad took so long to recover though, my wee little sister and dear bro in law have opted to take it easy on the old man and come to him. So instead of over 2 weeks of being gone, we'll be gone for just about a week and then they'll meet us back here at the old folks' house. What a sweet, selfless move on their part. Dad's doing much better, but I think it will take him a while before he's back doing yoga on the Wii Fit.

That's right. I said it. Dad does yoga these days. Aaaand, he meditates. How's that for an old dog learning several thousand year old tricks?

One Giant Step for Dad-Kind!

They sent Dad back to the apartment! Yay! So that means that the doctors believe that he is out of immediate danger. He's still on antibiotics and a whole wheelbarrow full of pills, but he can finally sleep in a real bed next to his bride.

I spent the day prepping the apartment to make sure it was as clean as possible. The bathroom had to be bleached from top to bottom. All throw rugs, linens and shower curtains had to be washed. The floors needed to be vacuumed or mopped with bleach and doors and knobs all had to be disinfected. Then we had a late Thanksgiving dinner, so I cooked for about 2 hours. I am beat!

And thrilled. :)
