Some Progress At Last!

I've got a couple of good leads with several companies that I really want to work for in Colorado Springs suddenly aaaaand... we just put money down on two Mini Coopers. They look startlingly like this:
Mine is the blue and Tom's is the red. They even have these racing stripes. So here's how we came to the decision to get a couple of Minis. Tom likes fun cars. I like economical cars. Somewhere in the middle, there's the Mini. The end. Seriously, check out the mileage these babies get. Tom opted for the sportier S seriese and I got the standard and more fuel efficient model.
Cool, eh?

Oi.

So much is going on. I really don't know where to begin.

Well let's start with Laos. Things didn't work out there so here we are still in Kuwait. I'll let Tom tell his tale there. He's back here with me now. So what's the plan? I think one of the reasons I was so turned on by the prospect of Laos is that it was an escape from Kuwait. I have to say that I am really unhappy here. I will write about some of those reasons once I've safely escaped, but suffice it to say that the local authorities don't take too kindly to candid criticism. Rest assured though that I will have some things I need to get off my chest when I leave so you'll probably get more details than you really want once it's all said and done.

Anyway, after I got over the grief that our perfect solution wasn't going to happen, I had to sit back and reflect about why I was so sad with this one opportunity not panning out for us. So here's what it is: I can't stand being here any longer. Once I realized that the majority of my sadness at not going to Laos was actually the disappointment at being stuck in my current miserable existence, things clarified for me a bit.

Dad is going to have to go back in for another round of chemo this fall. My year with my current job is up this fall. The housing market will never be better. The timing just seems so perfect. Do I wish we'd met our financial goals? Yes. Do I think I could have slogged through another year or so without offing myself? Yes. Do I think its right to live your life in utter misery in pursuit of the all mighty dollar? Hell no! And you know what; we're in better financial shape than most people I know. It's time to come home.

Home. Where is that exactly? Is it in Huntsville with most of my dearest friends? Is it in the Pacific Northwest where I'm "from" and where my brother and sister live? Is it in Nevada where my parents live? Maybe New Mexico with Ben? I also have come to the realization that I don't really have a home any more. I want one. So being the good little Capricorn that I am, I sat down to run the numbers with my dear hubby. The numbers and my tolerance for lifestyle have basically pointed to Colorado Springs. So that's where we're going.

I'm going to go hang out with my Dad and try to let him beat me at Settlers of Katan (a fine board game for the uninitiated) in an effort to cheer him up while he feels like crap. Then I'm going to go back to Colorado, where Tom and Picric will have been studying the housing market to find myself a job. This should be around the beginning of November (hint hint to any of you guys that know of a good opportunity that might be available around that time). They should have cars and a temporary living situation worked out by the time I get there.

Once I find a job, we'll find a house. Then at some point, I'll be heading up to Tacoma to pick up all the stuff I have in storage that I haven't seen in a decade in some cases. It will be like my own private little time capsule. Some of the pictures and memorabilia....

I should even get to stop in to see my brother at least for a day or so, depending on the tolerance my new employer has for me being gone for a few days.

So there we go. New life. New home... I'm excited and terrified. Oh. And I'm a novelist. :)

I hope everyone had taken ample opportunity to ogle the amazing word count over on the right hand side of this page. I did indeed hit my word count for my goal which ended today. The book isn't perfect, in fact, it's not even put together in the right order and there are huge swathes of narrative that haven't been written. It's full of things like “this is where Bethany travels to the capitol city of Chancelus” and “Samuel will fight something that will kill his horse so it slows him down. Can't let him catch Bethany on the road.” So there's a lot of cleaning up to do. But it's done. I think that maybe there are three words that are the most beautiful in the world.

Home

The End.
