Some stuff
Well I failed my first challenge. I guess I got a little caught up in life this last week and lost sight of the fact that I had another challenge due yesterday. I'm nowhere close. Anyway, Michael, looks like I owe you a deer hunt. I hope you'll be patient with me about when exactly I'll be able to pay that debt. Isn't it kind of ironic that it was the first challenge I actually got? Weird.
Anyway, I found out that my dad has come out of remission officially. He now has to go in and get treated for his cancer again with the stem cell replacement therapy sort of like before. I've been a bit shaken by that I guess. Maybe I had convinced myself that he was going to be the wunderkind that would be the medical oddity that beat the inevitable. Who knows? Maybe he still will be. I've seen him do stranger things before!
I find it interesting the things people in your life do when the chips are down for you. There are people you can count on and people you can't. Though it's not always pleasant, it's at least valuable to know who your friends are and who really loves you.
I'm so grateful for the love of my husband. Anyone who knows him knows that he's usually a complete wreck when we're not together. Right now is no exception. He's terribly lonely without me. I miss him with all my heart, but usually I'm ok by myself for extended periods. Poor Tom - not so much.
So even being absolutely horrible at being without me, he insisted that I take a few months to help my dad when he undergoes this procedure. He knows he can't come with me and yet he knows my dad needs me right now.
That kind of self-sacrifice and empathetic response is what I have come to know and expect from my husband. He's generous to a fault. All he wants in life is me... and maybe a sports car and a lemur, but really, he could be convinced to forgo with the latter two to be with me. Several months is like a lifetime in Tom-land. I can't imagine how much he must love me to be willing to let me go for a while.
But then, I don't really need to imagine. I've lived with that every day since I met him and that is why I love him. Meg Cabot said, "Courage is not the absence of fear but the judgment that something else is more important than fear." My Tom is very courageous.

Whew!
I narrowly escaped missing that last challenge! With Tom leaving this week, it's been... hectic to say the least. Anyway, I barely passed. Want to know how? I was litterally typing up until the very last 2 paragraphs at 11:58 PM! I wasn't going to make it, so I invented a language for the forein folk that were speaking to my main character. It has lots of j's and k's because they're on the home row and as I just hit random keys for a few responses to questions, that's what I hit. So I guess they're Marshallese! J's and k's are pretty much the staple sounds for my long lost brothers and sisters, so Marshallese they shall be. Isn't it nice how strange panicky situations end up being blessings in disguise? I miss all my Marshallese friends so much.
Annie is here right now taking a class I got to sponsor, so that's taking the edge off, but MAN! Do I miss Will and Martin and Labtak and all the Consul girls and Bo and all the musicians that used to play in Shermie's band and my Sister Liz and the lovely Linda... man, I can't even go on. It's just too rough.
Anyway, is there anything sweeter than being rescued by my Marshallese brothers and sisters or at least their fictional counterparts? Now the only trouble is going to be figuring out a way to make Marshallese folks seem threatening at first. haha! Yokew Yuk my friends!
